What exactly does measuring the optical density of macular pigment (the yellow spot) involve?

Step 1

The test is really simple and your optician will explain exactly what you need to do

Step 2

You look into the measuring device with one eye just like you would with a telescope. In it you’ll see three dots and you’ll need to watch the middle one. If it starts to flicker, you’ll need to press a button right away. This is repeated a number of times. The test takes around 90 seconds per eye.

Step 3

The established values are automatically matched with information stored in a database and then the device displays your individual macular pigment density value (the yellow spot). Based on this value, your optician can show you the various options available to you to help you protect your eye health.
